About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Is Hong Kong to Beijing to Mumbai applicable for the 72 hour visa free visit?

We are a family of 4 resident in Mumbai, children are aged 10 and 8. We are all UK passport holders.
We are planning a trip as follows this October.
22/10 Depart Mumbai, Arrive Hong Kong
29/10 Depart Hong Kong, arrive Beijing
31/10 Depart Beijing, arrive Mumbai (probably flight will be via Hong Kong)
We would also like to visit the Great Wall while we are in Beijing. Is this considered within the territory of Beijing?
Can we do all this within the 72-hour free transit?

Munni, if after visiting Beijing, you fly back to Mumbai directly, you can enjoy the 72 hour free transit in Beijing and you will be allowed to visit the Great Wall during that time.
But you said when you fly to Mumbai from Beijing, the flight may be via HK, if so, you are not eligible for the 72 hour free transit. You need to apply for a tourist L type in advance.

Thanks, this is very helpful. I'm planning my return flight Beijing to Mumbai. It is Cathay Pacific which is routed via Hong Kong but I'm planning to stay in the airport and not step out during that transit portion. Does that mean I can't use the 72 hour free transit?

Dear, sorry, even you don’t leave HK airport, you cannot enjoy the 72 hour free transit in Beijing.
