transit visa 144 hours in Shanghai

We are British citizens and in October 2016 traveling to Shanghai by plain.Staying in Shanghai for 3 days in Regal East hotel and then boarding cruse ship in Baosham terminal for Japan.
Do we qualify for free transit 144 hours in Shanghai. Is it necessary to obtain free transit and how?
