Travelling from Australia to India via Beijing?

Can I go out of airport to shop and stay in a hotel as my next connecting flight would be in 15 hours. What is the transit visa fee and process.
I hold an Indian passport

Yes, you can go out of the airport and stay in a hotel. You need to apply for a temporary stay permit upon arrival at the immigration counter. It's free of charge.
