About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Travelling from SFO - Shanghai - Taiwan - SFO

If I am travelling from SFO to Taiwan, to shanghai (3 days), back to Taiwan, then back to SFO, can I use this free transit?

Sorry, you can't use the free transit. Your departure region Taiwan is the same with your final destination.

I'm sorry, but my final destination is SFO. I have a layover from Taiwan to Shanghai. In the event I can't use this transit, what do I needo? This is an emergency because the trip is next week

But after staying in Shanghai, you will go back to Taiwan. If you go back to SFO directly after staying in Shanghai, then you can enjoy the free transit in Shanghai.
Otherwise, you need to apply for a visa in advance.
