12 hour Layover in China

Dear Sir or Madam,
Peace. I'm an American citizen who is traveling to Thailand for Chuseok. On my return trip, I have a 12 hour layover in China, and want to leave the airport for a hotel. Do I still have to get a tourist visa? I have more than 6 months left on my ARC. I have all of my tickets paid for, and I can show that my contract is good here in Korea for about 9 more months.

Nikki, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit in PRC, so no entry permit is needed. You need to apply for a free temporary stay permit at the immigration office and then you can leave the airport and stay at a hotel.

Nguyen, if you will fly to a third country or region rather than the last country you fly from after staying for less than2 4 hours in PPRC, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit. You just need to apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport and then you can go to the hotel.
