About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72 hour visa exemption -airport to cruise ship

Adding more details to my original question...
on Australian passport, considering flying into Shanghai (say Monday), stay for one night (Monday), then board a cruise ship around 3 pm on 3rd day (Wednesday) to Japan.
main question - can we qualify for 72 hour exemption if we fly into Shanghai and leave by cruise ship?

As Shanghai has implemented the 144-hour free transit policy now, you can fly into Shanghai and leave by cruise ship. And you can stay there for as long as six days.
