overnight transit in shanghai before boarding a cruise.this should be visa free?

My sister is joining us for the cruise element of our holiday. She will fly to Shanghai & stay overnight in a hotel, then we join the cruise ship the next day. Presumably , she can go free? Be nice to have written confirmation of this!  Peter.UK.

Hi Peter, if your sister holds UK passport and she flies from a country to Shanghai and then take the cruise to another country, it's possible that she qualies for the 144-hour free transit policy. So she can go there without any entry permit.
