old passport needed ?

i am travelling to guangzhou this 29/8/2016.as being told by agent old passport required upon submit application.and if we unable to provide, we cant get our visa.this is not my first time travelling to china.i shock with the new rules.how if we already thrown old passport ??

If you cannot provide it in the end, I don’t think it will cause any big problems. The previous passport may be needed to be a reference for your new application. You can report your situation to the consular officers honestly.
