About:Chinese Embassy in Canada

Passport Issued 2013 or 2014

Is it correct that if you have a passport that was issued in one of those years above, you need to bring in your old passport in order to get your China Visa? It seems a bit far fetched, since some people would have requested the Canadian Passport office to destroy their old ones.
What do you do in that case?

Sharon, I have never heard of that. You can contact with the embassy of PRC and confirm that. Tel: 613-5638 472 I only know that information about your previous entry permit for PRC may be needed for a reference.
If the previous passport is indeed needed and you cannot find it, you can tell consular officer the situation honestly. I think it is just used as a reference, so there is no need to worry!

Hi Sharon,
Did you have any luck? My son is waiting for his entry permit but he did not have the expired passport, The new rule came in Aug10/16 and the CVASC were reluctant to even accept his application saying that it would be rejected without it. I had it destroyed when it was renewed as per Passport Canada's recommendation. Just wondering how you made out? Thanks. Debbie

Unfortunately, it is true and you would need to get a letter from Passport Canada in which they would provide same details from the old passport and explained that it was destroyed. That would take approximately 7 - 10 business days. There is no other way around it. Thank god Passport Canada is willing to do that.
