If you plan to take a ferry directly from Hong Kong airport to Shenzhen, it has to be a ferry from HK airport Skypier to Shekou port in Shenzhen. One warning here, Shekou visa office opening hours are: 9:00 - 13:00 & 14:30 - 16:30. You cannot take a ferry to Shekou if that ferry does not arrive at the time when the visa office in Shekou is open. You can arrive at, for example, 13:30, but you will have to wait until 14:30 when the visa office opens again, so plan accordingly. The price of 5 day Shenzhen VOA is 130 CNY per person (every person is charged, regardless of age) and it is paid by card. All major cards are accepted. You will fill out a relevant form, you will be taken a photo there and after at most 45 minutes, your application will be processed and you will proceed toward Shenzhen center. When you are done with your visit to Shenzhen, you can return to Hong Kong by taking any border crossing and any mean of transport, high speed train included.
