Stopover in Shanghai on way to Okinawa?

Hello, I am planning a return trip from Australia to Okinawa early next year and I am thinking of a stopover in Shanghai along the way. If I decide to stay 2 or 3 days in Shanghai (either before destination or after during return) do I need a visa to alight in Shanghai?

Thanks,
Peter.

Hi Peter, as long as you arrive in Shanghai from a country and will head for a different country, you can enjoy the 144-hour free transit policy there. That means you can stay for up to six days there!
