Rosalie, may I know which passport you hold? Nationals of some countries can enjoy free entry to HK. But if you are not from one of the qualified countries, you need to apply for a transit entry permit in advance for your transit in HK. Only when you enter with the transit entry permit can you go out of the airport and visit there.

If so, you can enjoy free entry to HK for a stay of no more than 14 days. If your layover in HK is less than 14 days, no entry permit is needed.
