About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Shanghai-Vietnam-shanghai

I have a single entry student X1 type. I land in SH the 25th at 2pm but the same day at 11pm I'm flying to Vietnam (ticket already booked) and coming back 10days later... I've been told to just enter as if I'm transiting (the 72free transit) so that they don't use my one entry from my visa. Is anyone able to verify that this possible?

Sam, you can travel like that and enjoy the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai when you enter there for the first time. But you need to tell the consular officers that you will use the 24 hour direct transit this time. In this case, you can save your student X type for your next entry.
