Can we go from the US to Shanghai to Japan and then back the same route

We land in Shanghai at 6:30PM on a Wednesday and leave on a cruise ship on Thursday 4:00PM for Japan. Six days later we return to Shanghai from Japan on a cruise ship and go straight to the airport for a 7:30PM departure for the US.

Gene, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit for both transits in Shanghai. So there is no need to apply for entry permit.
