About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Back to back cruise from Shanghai

If I arrive by airplane in Shanghai, stay 1 night, take a 4nts cruise to Korea, come back to Shanghai for a 7nts cruise on the same ship from Shanghai to Tokyo and fly out of Tokyo, does the 144 visa free works?

Josee, you can enjoy the free transit for your first entry to Shanghai.
For your second stop in Shanghai, you need to apply for an entry permit ahead of your trip.

Can you explain why I cannot use another 144 visa free transit for the second entry in China?
I'll only stop in Shanghai, check out the ship and check in again. And it mentions any port of entry is good. I'll stay at the pier

Because you will enter and exit by the same cruise ship when you enter Shanghai for the second time, the cruise may require you to get a visa beforehand. You can contact with the cruise and confirm that.
