Do we need a visa for a one day cruise stop in Shanghai ending in Hong Kong with 3 nights stay?

Asked by Louanne July 29, 2016 Trip starts with 2 hotel nights in Tokyo, then cruise leaves and visits on one day stops to Taipei, Okinawa, Shimizu, Kobe, Nagasaki, Shanghai and ends in Hong Kong with arrival on Saturday {stay on board for the evening} - to the hotel on Sunday for 2 nights in a hotel and then leave back to the US on Tuesday. I am a US citizen with a passport.

Louanne, as far as I know, if you travel by cruise ship to enter and exit Shanghai, you may be required to apply for an entry permit in advance. You are advised to contact with the cruise company and confirm that.
