About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Layover (Transit)

Hi, I have my Indonesian passport with me, I will take the flight from Jakarta, Indonesia to Boston U.S., but we will transit first at Guangzhou, China for 15 hours and me and my sister planning to go out and see the city. What type of visa do we need? and can we apply for it at the Guangzhou airport?

Thank you,
Irene

Irene, as per what you said, you are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit in Guangzhou. You don’t need to apply for any entry permit then. You can apply for a temporary stay permit which is free of charge at the immigration office and then you can leave the airport.

If I only need a direct transit, do I go through the same line as the 72-hour visa line, or the general immigration line....thanks..Doug

Doug, when you arrive at the airport, you can follow the direction signs to the place where you can handle the 24 hour direct transit procedures and it is different from the 72 hour free transit counter.
