About:China Visa Exemption

Arriving and Departing Shanghai within 24 hours on a cruise liner

We are cruising into Shanghai, and depart within 24 hours on the same ship to a different country. Our only port of call in China is Shanghai. We are British passport holders. Our cruise line is insisting that we need a full visa to visit Shanghai.

Are they correct.

Sue, in principle, you are eligible for the free transit policy in Shanghai. However, I heard that if you take a cruise ship to Shanghai and then leave by the same ship, you can't enjoy the free transit policy. I guess it's because the immigration officer can't make sure all passengers will leave after the stop in Shanghai.
