but i just got a job that wants me to change to Ztype. can i just send my pasport to an agent in South africa to proces the Z type for me and then send it back to me in China? or i still need to exit? thanks

Roland, you cannot do that. If you want to apply for the Z type in your home country, you need to be there during the application process. Actually, you can try to change your X type to Z type at the exit and entry administration of the local PSB within PRC. In this case, you may not need to exit.
