About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

How to apply the 72 hour exmeption

Do we need to apply the 72 hours exemption in advance ? Or just do at the airport when dropping our luggage at the airline desk ? Will the airline staff let us on the plan without a Visa or any other proof of the exemption ?

No, you don't need to do anything in advance if you have an onward ticket to a foreign destination other than where you just came in from that leaves within 72 hours. You will be told what to do when you go through customs at the airport.

Thanks.
My flight is from London to Xian but via connection flight in HK.
Staying in Xian for 2 days then go to HK for a week.
Will the airport consider the joinery as London - Xian - HongKong ?

I’m afraid not because you will have a stopover in HK before you arrive in Xian, and after that, you fly back to HK. You cannot enjoy the 72 hour free transit in Xian then.
