About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

World Cruise day visit - Cruise ship from/to UK

Can I enter via Shanghai cruise terminal and leave again in approx. 12 hours via the same cruise terminal and ship. I keep being told I have to enter and leave via different terminals and carriers but I am nt reading this visa requirement like that.

You can leave from the same terminal. But if you want to use the free transit in Shanghai, you should make sure that you will go to a third country or region rather than the last one you come from after 12-hour stay in Shanghai.
