Six days in Shanghai - Transit Visa ?

In October, I have a one way award ticket from Houston TX to Singapore (transit refuel stop in Moscow) and then a connecting flight (four hour layover ) to Shanghai on Singapore Airlines. Arrival Shanghai October 15 at 05:35.
Six days after arrival, I have a one way award ticket on American Airlines from Shanghai connecting in Los Angeles to JFK. That departure is at 18:20.

I believe I would need the L type entry permit, but if I choose to just take an award ticket to Singapore and have a couple days in Singapore and then fly to Shanghai, I would not. Correct ?

Thank you !

Nita, I think you have some misunderstanding here. On the contrary, your route is fine for the 144-hour free transit. If you choose to take an onward ticket to Singapore, you will flying from Singapore to Shanghai and then get back to the same country. In this case, you will not qualify for the free transit policy.
