is it necessary to have an interview for a 30 day tourist visa?

I have a British passport but am resident in Mozambique. Will it be necessary to have an interview to obtain a single entry 30 day tourist L type entry permit? I live in Nampula which is far from the nearest Chinese Embassy in Maputo.
