planning to visit the silk road during golden week, is it worth it?

Will be in the following cities from 10/1 to 10/10: Xian, Turpan, DunhuAng and Urumqi during golden week, is it as crowded as the other big cities? Is it a good time to go?

First of all, these cities are the best choice to explore the road. However, Xian and Dunhuang shall be very crowded, while the situation in other two cities can be much better. To fully enjoy yourself, I suggest you change your plan a bit of earlier or later, avoiding the Golden Week.
