About:2025 / 2026 / 2027 Public Holiday Calendar

We are planning to visit Shanghai over Chinese New Year 2017

Can you tell me which are the best days to enjoy the festival - processions etc. We would enjoy visiting say villages nearby to take in a more local flavour. Any advice gratefully received.

The New Year festival event of 2017 can be seen from the end of January to the middle of February. You can go to Shanghai during that time. You may consider spending a few days in Fengjing Ancient Town or Zhujiajiao Water Town. Both of them boast rural riverside landscape. There, you can have a taste of local delicacies and join in many folk activites, such as paper-cutting, opera shows, and temple fairs.

In the city, you can view lantern shows, garden parties, and folk activities in many places like Yuyuan Garden, Old City's God Temple, the Bund, Nanjing Road, and Oriental Pearl TV Tower. You will definitely enjoy yourself.
