How long are Chinese visas valid for?

I am traveling to China for 60 days on a New Zealand passport and will be applying for a Chinese tourist L type in Croatia or Slovenia. What is the likely validity time for it. That is, what is the earliest I can apply for it before entering China?

The single-entry tourist L type is usually valid for three months, so the earliest time you can apply is three months prior to your departure time for PRC.
