11hr Beijing Stop Over and 'Specified Transit Area' definition

Hi,
We are travelling home to Melbourne via Beijing and have an 11hour stopover. Can I please confirm that all I need to do is for my family and I to apply for a 'Temporary Stay Permit' upon arrival at the airport? If so, is there a fee for this? Is there any restrictions on where we can/can't go?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, you are right, all you need to do is to apply for a 'Temporary Stay Permit' upon arrival at the airport. It's free of charge. During the 11 hours, as long as you don't go ouside of Beijing, it will be fine.
