If I am travelling on to South Africa and getting my visa on arrival

does this mean I would not be permitted the 72 hour free transit?

Abby, you can also get the 72 hour free transit in PRC as long as you meet the requirements. You can print out the VOA policy in South Africa and take it with you, if the consular officers ask for the entry permit to a third country, you can show it to them.
