Show the best way to get to the city from PEK when my international flight will arrive at midnight.

Well, could you provide more details about your destination? Then I can tell you the exact transportation. The airport provides Shuttle Bus Xidan Night Line that can take you to Dongzhimen, Main Railway Station, the International Hotel and Xidan. The operating hours of this line are from 24:00 to the last domestic flight arrival. And the ticket fare is CNY 21 to 24 per person.

Would it be possible to get to Tiangongyuan at the end of Metro line 4 at this time of night? Otherwise I will stay in a hotel in the city and travel to Tiangongyuan in the morning.

I am sorry that there is metro service at midnight.

You can take shuttle bus line 2 to Xidan Station for CNY 24. Then, take a taxi to Tiangongyuan for about CNY 100. Or, you can take a taxi from PEK to Tiangongyuan for about CNY 220.

Actually, you are advised to stay at the downtown area. On the next morning, take metro line 4 to Tiangongyuan. :)
