What is the metro route I should take in Shanghai?

I need to travel between Ascott Huai Hai Road and NECC (national exhibition & convention centre. Is taking the metro convenient and safe?

Yes, taking metro is a more convenient and safer way.
From the hotel, you can take line 1 from South Huangpi Road to People's Square. Then transfer to line 2 to Xujing East Station, Exit 6. The duration is about 45 mins. It costs CNY 5 per person.
Afterwards, just walk to the destination. The return way is the same.
