About:Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport

Permit to leave Xiamen airport for a few hours on transit.

Is the stay permit free & would be granted easily if we are in transit for 10 hours? We would like to check into a hotel during the transit for a good rest.

Well, as I know, the Stay Permit is free for air passengers. And generally speaking, you can easily get that. You can complete the "embarkation/disembarkation card", together with your travel documents, boarding pass for the onward connecting flight and travel itinerary, go to the inspection counter of China Immigration Inspection to apply for 24h stay permit.
