About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

From the US, I will enter via Guangzhou. Then Hong Kong. then back in Guangzhou to flight back home

hello,
I applied for a 1 entry visa to China. But now my plans changed...
I am planning on entering China via Guangzhou.
Then I am going to Hong Kong by train.
From Hong Kong I intend to take a flight to Guangzhou and from there back to the US. I will be staying in Guangzhou in transit, don't intend to leave the airport.
If I understood it correctly, with the 72 hours visa I can go ahead with my plans.
If I understand correctly, I do not need to go back to the Chinese embassy to apply for any other type of visa. When boarding in Hong Kong I need to Inform the airlines – Fill an Arrival/Departure Card on the flight - Apply the 72-hour permit – Claim the luggage – Go through the custom - Go to the check-in line for my new airline/flight back to US, go to customs, present my 72-hour permit, board flight.
Thank you for your help!

hello! it's Lola again. I just posted my specific situation. I appreciate your help!
one more question: if instead of flying from Hong Kong to Guangzhou I were to take a train back. Will the same type of 72 hour visa be available with a train entry / at the train's customs' checkpoint?
Thanks again!

Dear, you should know that if you want to use the 72 hour visa free transit, you should take flights all the time. So if you change your plan and take a train to Guangzhou from HK, you cannot use the 72 hour free transit. However, if your total layover time in Guangzhou is less than 24 hours and after that, you will fly back to US, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit. In this case, no visa is needed either.

But if your layover time in Guangzhou is more than 24 hours and less than 72 hours, you should take a flight to Guangzhou from HK.
