Traveling to Guangzhou from Hong Kong and back within 24 hours

I am US citizen and will enter GZ from Hong Kong via train and go back to Hong Kong on the same day (< 24 hours). In this case do I need China Visa to enter China, or I can use Direct Visa-free service even though I am taking train to GZ and not by plane?

For your case, a China visa is needed and you should apply for one in advance in your country.
