24 hour visa free visit

Is it allowed to enter with a Schengen passport without a China visa from Hong kong by foot at the Lowu border crossing and then go to Conghua city close to Guangzhou if I quickly return and exit at the Lowu border crossing within 24 hours? Would it make any difference if I enter and exit via the train from Hong Kong to Guangzhou?
