Manila to Shanghai one way flight, Shanghai to Tokyo one way flight

Hi, I am have a philippine airlines flight from Manila to Shanghai on the 6th of April Arrival at 3pm.
I have another flight from Shanghai - Tokyo on Delta airlines on the 7th of April departure at 10am.

I wish to go to Hangzhou for the night to see a friend and come back to Shanghai in the morning.

Is this ok being on two separate flights? If so what layover visa shall I apply for the Direct Transit or 72 hour? Since I only want under 24 hours.
Thanks!

Matt, it is okay to have two separate flights. You may be given the 24 hour direct transit and you may be required to apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport and it’s free of charge.
