Recent approval for a Z. Visa but I renewed my passport

Hi, my Z type has been approved and we are awaiting my invitation letter. But after I submitted application, I noticed that my passport will expire during my stay in PRC ( on the 11th month). So I renewed my passport and now I have a new passport number. My old passport which is now invalid has been returned to me. Should I inform the Chinese salute before I go there?
