Transiting two cities in China

I'm traveling from Phuket to Chengdu (5hrs layover) and then to Shanghai (19hrs layover) and than finally to Toronto. Do i need a visa or can i travel freely for the duration of my trip?

Ana, because your total stopover time is not over 24 hours, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit. In this way, you don’t need to apply for an entry permit.
