About:China Transit Visa

Transit at Shanghai Pudong and Kunming Airports

Hi,
I am an Indian Passport holder travelling on China Eastern air-ticket from KOLKATA to SAN FRANCISCO and back and the return route is SAN FRANCISCO – SHANGHAI PUDONG – KUNMING – KOLKATA. During the return journey there are lay over at Shanghai Pudong for 14 hours 30 minutes starting from 17:30 HRS AND another lay over at Kunming for 12hours 40minutes starting from 11:15 HRS. So the total duration of stay in China is more than 24 hours. Will we get TRANSIT permission both at Shanghai Pudong and Kunming so that we can stay at a hotel in Shanghai near Airport and next day move around at Kunming? If not then what are the options?

Kajal, considering your situation, you cannot use the 24 hour direct transit, so you should apply for a transit G type in advance of your trip. You should apply for it in USA or India. You need to provide those documents including your passport and its photocopy, the filled-out application form with a passport-style photo attached, and the onward air tickets. And then submit it to the embassy of PRC to apply for it if you apply in USA; or submit your application to the CVASC to apply for it if you apply from India.

Thank you very much for your lucid explanation.

One more query - If I do not have the TRANSIT G type, then what would be the problems?? Will I be permitted to remain inside the airports, keeping in mind that KUNMING - SHANGHAI Pudong is a domestic sector!

Dear, considering your case, if you don’t have a transit G type, I’m afraid that you may be refused to board the plane in USA. So you have to apply for a transit G type beforehand.
