My husband and I are going on a cruise to Japan and China. Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.

Do we need a visa for these stops, which the cruise ship is making?

You can enjoy free entry to Taiwan and HK. As for Shanghai, if you go to Shanghai from HK and stay there for less than 6 days, and after that, you will go to a third country or region instead of HK, you can enjoy the 144 hour free transit. In this case, no entry permit is required.
