About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US-Beijing-Taipei (layover in Shanghai)

Can I apply 72 hour visa in Beijing when my departure to Taipei has a layover in Shanghai of less than 24 hours? Then from Taipei to Shanghai can I apply a 144hour free transit if returning to US there's a layover back in Taipei? Going: USA-Beijing-Taipei(layover Shanghai) Returning:Taipei-Shanghai-USA(layover Taipei)

Viv, I’m sorry, but you cannot enjoy the free transit for both legs of your trip.
Going: USA-Beijing-Taipei(layover Shanghai), you stop in two Chinese cities, but according to the policy, you can only stop in one.
Returning: Taipei-Shanghai-USA(layover Taipei), after transit in Shanghai and fly back to USA, you have a layover in Taiwan. In principle, you should fly to USA direct or you can fly to a third region instead of Taiwan.
