About:Transfer in T3 of Beijing Capital Airport

I'm flying from New York to Japan with a layover in Beijing.

From what it sounds like... I won't have to check my baggage again. BUT... will I have to clear customs (e.g., security scanning, etc.)? Was thinking about getting some things at duty-free in Japan, but it might be a bit difficult with liquids if I need to go through security again.

Yes, if it is a connected ticket, you needn't claim your luggage at PEK, and it will be delivered to your final destination directly. But you need to go through security check and customs inspection.
