You mean that Kunming is your final destination, right? If yes, you need to apply for an entry permit in advance. Or you will fly to India or other country instead of Japan after you stay in Kunming? If yes and your layover time in PRC is less than 24 hours in total, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit. In this case, transit G type is not needed.
