About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

2x 72 hour transit allowed? (additional clarification needed)

Leeds from USA kindly replied to my previous question whether a 72 hour transit in Guangzhou would be allowed on the following route: AMS-PEK(72h)-CAN(3h)-SYD

Leeds said the route is not qualified because I stop over in two Chinese cities.

I'm a bit puzzled because in (2) in the Conditions for Application it says "The flights to and from any of the eighteen cities should not stop BEFOREHAND in any other Chinese cities".
In my case, I have a stopover (and not leaving the airport) AFTER the desired 72 hours in Beijing.
Have I interpreted this incorrectly or does it mean that the 72 hour visit should be the ONLY stop between 2 other countries?

Thanks in advance for the additional clarification!
Mark

Hi Mark! I will put it like this: before you stop over in Guangdong, you have a layover in Beijing, see? Beijing is the entry port while Guangdong is the exit port. However, according to the policy, you should entry and exit from the same port (except in Shanghai). So if you want to enjoy this policy at Beijing, please take a direct flight from Beijing to Sydney or to HK or some other countries.

Thanks Edgar!

If anybody from TravelChinaGuide is reading this, I'd suggest changing the Conditions for Application to "2. The flights to and from any of the eighteen cities should not stop before OR AFTER in any other Chinese cities".
