About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Not really transiting

Let's say I wanted to come watch a Football match in Shanghai. Would only be there for 4 or 5 days, do I need to have an onward ticket to a 3rd country, or can I just go from my hometown, to Shanghai and back.

Luc, if so, I’m afraid you cannot use the 144 hour free transit. According to the relevant requirements of the policy, you should go to a third country or region after your stopover in Shanghai. A good choice is to go back via HK or Macau so that your route will be eligible.
