Mid August trip to china - is that a good time to go?

We want to go to the main tourist stops, Tiananmen Square, Great Wall, Stone Guards, etc. We have a 70+ year old with breathing problems going. Will the heat and pollution be ok to do all that walking?

To be honest, mid August is not an ideal time for a visit. The pollution won't affect your journey, but it is too hot for the senior citizen. By the way, the best time for a visit is in April, May, September, and October. You may consider postponing your trip a little bit. Have a nice trip! ;)

Thank you very much for your response. I am pushing for may but due to other members who are going they want to go in july or August. What is the average temperature in mid august? Would July be any better?

Thank you again. I really appreciate your help

The average temperature in mid August is about 78F. No, July is a little hotter than August. By the way, summer lasts from June to August in the city. In September, the temeprature is moderate, and suitable for travelling around. You will have a better travelling experience on cool autumn days. ;)

Lived in the city for over 3 years - definitely go in May or September. The pollution is a lot worse in Summer due to the fact that most places start running A/C throughout the day which creates higher electricity demand. Add to that the fact that humidity and temperatures are high in the Summer months (I used to have to change shirt by the time I commuted the 20 minutes to work and definitely would not want to do a great deal of walking), and you may find you spend half of your holiday lying under your hotel's air conditioning system. If they are really pushing for July/August, then just put your foot down and tell them it isn't a suitable time. Early-mid June isn't too bad, but by late June, the temperatures and humidity are rising and that means more electricity consumption and worse air pollution.
