About:Policy for Foreigners with Immediate Family Living in China

question about family Q1 visa

I've been holding the working residence permit in China for 3 years, and I just went to PSB to apply for the new residence permit because I'm married to a Chinese girl, but the officer advised me to cancel my working residence permit first in the city where I used to work and then exit PRC and apply for Q1 type and then come back. What if I didn't cancel my working residence permit? Can they give me Q1 type when I go back to my country? I don't want to go back to the city where I used to work for it's too far from my place now.

Larry, will you continue your work in PRC? If yes, you don’t need to apply for Q1 type.
But if not, you need to cancel the foreign employment permit, and then apply for the Q1 type. If you don’t want to go to the city, you need to go back to your home country and apply for a family Q1 type.

I mean your foreign expert certificate. After you cancel it, you can renew your residence permit.
