About:Shanghai Pudong Airport

Can I stay in international area, PVG for whole day and not start the 72h tourist visa until later?

I will fly into PVG on February 14. However, I want to go to Beijing later that day or even the next morning but I don't want to start the 72 hours tourist visa until then. Can I stay within the international area and not go through immigration until later? Sorry long story why I didn't just fly into Beijing first.

I'm afraid not. Once landing, you need to take the transfer procedure, not allowed to sytay within the restricted area. Also as you are going to Beijing and then fly out, the case doesn't eligble for the 72h visa-free policy, which is for passengers with one stop in mainland China. So for your case, it is best to apply for a transit visa (G type) in advance for your convenience.

PS. If your case applies to the polity, I wanna remind you that the 72h (in PVG) counts from the next 00:00 after the arrival day.
