What about going in January? Should we have special winter equipment? What's the besy ways to get there from Xi'an? And where to spend the night?

Yes, it is a good time. The scenery is fascinating in January, and perhaps you can enjoy the snow scene there. The environmentally friendly cars will run normally. By the way, the temperature may range between 43F and 54F. So, you should take winter clothes to keep warm. The best way is to take direct flights which depart at 19:35 every day. The flights are operated by Joy Air and China Eastern Airlines. The trip just takes about 1.5 hours.
