72 hr visa stay usa to beijing to hong kong

Question

I am a US citizen traveling to Beijing from USA. I am planning to stay for 2 days in beijing and then traveling to hong kong. Will the 72 hr free transit apply or do i need another entry permit?

Andres, if you travel from the USA to Beijing and to Hong Kong all by air and you don't transit in any other Chinese city, the 72hr free transit applies to you.
