About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I stay 72 hours in shanghai flying from Moscow Russia to Chiangmai Thailand?

Using different airlines and not needing visa to Thailand as i got USA passport?

It doesn't matter whether you fly in different airlines. If your total transit is less than 72 hours and you don't stop by another Chinese cities, you are qualified for the free transit.
